Example man's brocade waistcoat

This is a man's waistcoat made up in brocade with the back and lining made in a polyester lining fabric. It has two bound pockets.  Pockets can also have flaps.  The back has a buckle fastening.

Typically, an average man's waistcoat requires around 1 metre of material for the front,
and 1.5 metres for the back and lining

Good quality silk costs from £11per metre.
Brocades can cost up to £60 per metre.
A wide variety of cheaper materials are very suitable
