Making your Dress, Blouse, or Skirt

The design process

This is similar but usually quicker than the process followed for a wedding dress as fewer fittings are normally required and the designs tend to be simpler. (However, for that special ball gown, you might want to look at the wedding dress process instead.)

How much time to allow

Time for you to decide what look is best, time for you to decide on the final material, time for you to try a mock up of the dress on and for later fittings.

Ideally, you should allow between two and four months from start to finish.

At quiet times. we can often do it in much less time, if you can be available for fittings and are able to visit us during normal working hours (9am to 3pm) between Monday and Friday.

First consultation

This will be a free, no obligation consultation. We will work together to design your garment, sketching designs, looking at fabric samples and deciding on design details such as beading and embroidery.

If you decide to go ahead, we will require a deposit, and detailed measurements will be taken.

Toile Fitting (mock up)

For more expensive and complex garments, a mock up of the garment will be made in a cheaper fabric to ensure the perfect fit. More than one visit may be required if you require changes to the design or fit.

When you are entirely happy with the fit, the actual material will be cut and the sewing begins!

We make up the garment

You will now start to see how your garment will really look, in your beautiful fabric.

Depending on the complexity of the garment, you may require more than one fitting to ensure the fit and ensure the perfect look.

If the garment is for a special event, to ensure a perfect fit, you will need to bring the actual undergarments you will be wearing on the day to the fittings. The shoes will be important to ensure the correct length.

Finale

Your garment will be completed and ready for collection. The final payment will now be due.
